13 Oct Newcastle Street Circuit Confirmed!

Destination New South Wales (DNSW) and Supercars Australia recently announced Newcastle as the new location for the Supercars 2017 Grand Finale. iEDM are extremely excited by this news and proud to have played a role in the development of this Event to date. iEDM have been working with Supercars and DNSW since March 2015 to find a suitable home for the grand finale of the Championship following its 8 year term in Sydney Olympic Park was coming to a close. iEDM have conducted design and engineering feasibilities for various locations in New South Wales to find the best option for Supercar racing and to maximise social and economic benefits to regions. Newcastle is the perfect fit. East Newcastle is an aesthetically stunning and historical area, surrounded by 2 world class beaches and the famous Newcastle Port. It is a visual we believe a lot of Australian’s will be amazed with, and in contrast with the ‘steel city’ images many people may have in their minds. Destination NSW’s objective, along with the significant numbers of tourists that will flock to the event, is that these images, beamed into millions of homes through Supercars television deals, will encourage interest and visitation in the area. We are...

28 Jun Increased investment activity for Australian motor sport venues

It is great to see some movement around the strategic investment in motor sport complexes right across Australia. Over the last 20 years or so, we have sadly seen a gradual decline in both number and quality of motor sport complexes around the country. Largely driven out by urban sprawl, various facilities have either closed or had their operating hours severely reduced. Of the 300 odd venues in Australia, the only circuits which come to mind as examples of venues that have undergone significant investment of facilities are Phillip Island, Barbagallo and Sydney Motorsport Park. In 2015, CAMS commissioned a report by Ernst and Young to establish the value of Motor sport to the Australian economy (http://docs.cams.com.au/Public%20Documents/CAMS_EYReport_201014_LR.pdf) . The report backed up what those of us in the industry know: Motorsport is the 4th most watched sport in Australia, only behind Australian Rules, NRL and Horse Racing. There are more than 150,000 motor sport participants across Australia. The sport creates over 16,000 direct jobs, over half of which are generated from circuits. Motorsport circuits are significant drivers of regional city income, with more than half of the participants of any circuit visiting from outside the local area. Participants spend an average of 9 days away each year...

29 Feb Clipsal 500 Adelaide – Extension to iEDM Agreement

iEDM and the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) have extended their current agreement, for iEDM to act as the Engineering Project Managers for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide until the 2018 Event. On behalf of the SATC, iEDM annually deliver roughly $16M of temporary overlay infrastructure for this iconic Australian Event. “We are very proud to extend our association with this major event and our strong partnership with our Client in the SATC. This Event is one of the largest temporary infrastructure builds in Australia which hosts around 300,000 patrons over 4 days. It’s a substantial logistics and planning operation and I am always proud of the way our team applies themselves and the manner which they deliver this project” says iEDM Managing Director, Liam Howe. The 2016 Clipsal 500 Adelaide has undergone significant change, which has been driven and implemented through the last 6 months of detailed planning and procurement. Over 90% of the existing supplier contracts for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide were required to undergo re-tender for the 2016 Event. At the same time, there was a strong desire from the SATC to improve quality of infrastructure supplied at the Event. The result is that iEDM have delivered a major facelift in the...

14 Jan Mount Panorama – Second Circuit

iEDM have been working with Bathurst Regional Council over the past few months on a preliminary feasibility for a second permanent motor sport circuit at Mount Panorama. Because of the street nature (and subsequently the residents) of the existing Mount Panorama Circuit, there are restrictions over its use throughout the year. The objective of the second circuit is to build on Bathurst’s reputation for being a motor sport destination by developing a venue which can be used throughout the year and for multiple uses. As a regional market, a tourist attraction that will consistently bring people to Bathurst can create very significant economic and social impact. A world class second circuit has the potential to attract activities such as: Major Events; Motor Sport Events / Series Rounds; Corporate Ride Days; Manufacturer / Motor Sport Testing; Manufacturer Ride Days; Training; and Motor Sport Industry Participation. All of the above activities will drive economic impact into the region and sustainably build on the once-a-year major impact of the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar Event. Whilst the design and location of the circuit cannot be released at this stage, we can say that we are very excited about it. Anytime you are working with natural undulation on these types of projects, there is the...

12 Dec Where Did August Go!?

We can’t believe that it’s already September! This year is flying past and we just noticed that it has been a while since our last update. That’s because the action stations have been manned with our committed team tirelessly preparing for Events right around the country. Our last update was about the project in Pukekohe, NZ being on track back in February! Firstly, that project was a major success and the kerbs designed by iEDM in the photo attached, have since been applauded by CAMS and the FIA. 2013 has been a year of building for iEDM, cementing ourselves as the premier engineering project managers in the temporary overlay and events space. We have had new people join the team and we have opened up a new office in Adelaide. Given all the growth, we thought it was about time we updated the website with what we are up to at the moment: • Clipsal 500 Adelaide – After being awarded the Engineering Project Management Contract for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, we have set up an office in Norwood, just a few minutes from the circuit. iEDM Director, Steve Orr has relocated to Adelaide full time to lead a team of new and experienced iEDM’ers...

It is such a great community event and one that we hope to be a part of for a long time to come. Congratulations to everyone involved. During the Townsville event last week, it was announced by V8SC that this proposal was successful in obtaining Government funding and the NZ round of the Championship would move to Pukekohe Park in April, 2013. iEDM provided conceptual master planning, funding feasibility and application documentation for V8 Supercars to assist in this process. The NZ$6.6 million project, which will be jointly funded by Auckland Council, Major Events New Zealand and V8 Supercars, will provide safety, operational and patron amenity upgrades to the existing circuit. iEDM will be providing all engineering project management, design and delivery of these upgrades as well as event overlay master planning and detailed design. West Australian Government has announced that the upgrades to the Barbagallo Raceway will be complete in time for the 2012 Trading Post Perth Challenge. iEDM, with Mark Skaife, was commissioned by the WA Department of Sports and Recreation to develop the original motorsport concept masterplan for the $15 Million upgrade, including internal pit lane and facilities design, V8 Supercar paddock layout, track safety improvements and speed curve analysis to assist the WA based design and construct team.
