29 Feb Clipsal 500 Adelaide – Extension to iEDM Agreement

iEDM and the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) have extended their current agreement, for iEDM to act as the Engineering Project Managers for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide until the 2018 Event. On behalf of the SATC, iEDM annually deliver roughly $16M of temporary overlay infrastructure for this iconic Australian Event. “We are very proud to extend our association with this major event and our strong partnership with our Client in the SATC. This Event is one of the largest temporary infrastructure builds in Australia which hosts around 300,000 patrons over 4 days. It’s a substantial logistics and planning operation and I am always proud of the way our team applies themselves and the manner which they deliver this project” says iEDM Managing Director, Liam Howe. The 2016 Clipsal 500 Adelaide has undergone significant change, which has been driven and implemented through the last 6 months of detailed planning and procurement. Over 90% of the existing supplier contracts for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide were required to undergo re-tender for the 2016 Event. At the same time, there was a strong desire from the SATC to improve quality of infrastructure supplied at the Event. The result is that iEDM have delivered a major facelift in the...

14 Jan Mount Panorama – Second Circuit

iEDM have been working with Bathurst Regional Council over the past few months on a preliminary feasibility for a second permanent motor sport circuit at Mount Panorama. Because of the street nature (and subsequently the residents) of the existing Mount Panorama Circuit, there are restrictions over its use throughout the year. The objective of the second circuit is to build on Bathurst’s reputation for being a motor sport destination by developing a venue which can be used throughout the year and for multiple uses. As a regional market, a tourist attraction that will consistently bring people to Bathurst can create very significant economic and social impact. A world class second circuit has the potential to attract activities such as: Major Events; Motor Sport Events / Series Rounds; Corporate Ride Days; Manufacturer / Motor Sport Testing; Manufacturer Ride Days; Training; and Motor Sport Industry Participation. All of the above activities will drive economic impact into the region and sustainably build on the once-a-year major impact of the Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar Event. Whilst the design and location of the circuit cannot be released at this stage, we can say that we are very excited about it. Anytime you are working with natural undulation on these types of projects, there is the...

12 Jan ABCB Temporary Structures Standard

Late in 2015, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) released the much awaited (well, for us maybe) Standard - Temporary Structures. The Standard has been a long time coming for those of us in Australia who have struggled to meet the deemed to satisfy provisions of the BCA (or NCC) as well as other State specific building legislation when planning and constructing temporary structures. The Standard helps to clear up and soften some elements within the BCA and how they are applied to temporary structures. For instance, the Standard provides differing levels of engineering parameters to clearly identify the obvious lower risk associated with structures that are only in place for a very short period of time. The document will no doubt aid the further development of a lot of Event's structure policies. However, it is not the silver bullet we were probably all hoping for and there remains a lot of 'grey' which Event Promoters need to look at with their professional consultants. Further, at this stage, each State's relevant law's prevail over the Standard and it is unclear how, or if, each of the States will adopt or reference the Standard. iEDM provided advice to the ABCB during the development of the Standard from the point of view of an Event...

07 Sep Overlay for Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

The 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships recently hit the water in the newly revamped Gold Coast Aquatic Centre following a $42 Million face lift as the first major test for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The redevelopment of the Aquatic Centre is one of the most significant Commonwealth Games legacy projects and provides a world class venue for the Gold Coast. The Centre was completed in July 2014, just in time for the PPSC and now includes two 50m competition pools, a dive pool, a 25m pool and two spectator legacy podiums. Integrated Event Delivery Management (iEDM) was awarded the contract to undertake the engineering project management for the PPSC overlay in May 2013, thirteen months prior to the commencement of bump in of the facility. “It was important us to be involved in the PPSC overlay as it was the first major test for the facility and as a proud Gold Coast Company we want to prove that we can deliver world class temporary venues in our home town” said Director Liam Howe; “Under the brief from our Client, The City of Gold Coast, we sourced primarily local suppliers to deliver the $1.5 million overlay”. The bump in for the temporary infrastructure overlay...

12 Dec iEDM Extend V8 Supercars Agreement

As the 2013 season concluded on the weekend with the Sydney NRMA Motoring and Services 500, iEDM are very excited to announce that we have extended our current Engineering Project Management agreement with V8 Supercars for an additional 3 years. The Agreement includes the Townsville 400, Gold Coast 600 and the Sydney 500 V8 Supercar Events, which iEDM have been delivering on behalf of V8 Supercars since 2009. iEDM Chairman John Howe says the agreement reflects the strong relationship between the two companies. “V8 Supercars are an extension of our iEDM family. On behalf of all of the Directors and staff at iEDM, we would like to thank V8 Supercars and in particular the Events team for their continued support of our organisation and our growth over the past 5 years.” Securing the EPM role with V8 Supercars for their major street circuits caps off an extremely successful year for iEDM. “Our reputation for delivery of overlay for major temporary events has led to many opportunities for our group.” Mr Howe says, “Our proven ability to deliver world class event infrastructure in complex public environments secured iEDM the contracts for the Engineering Project Managers role for the 2014 – 2016 Clipsal 500 Adelaide...

12 Dec Where Did August Go!?

We can’t believe that it’s already September! This year is flying past and we just noticed that it has been a while since our last update. That’s because the action stations have been manned with our committed team tirelessly preparing for Events right around the country. Our last update was about the project in Pukekohe, NZ being on track back in February! Firstly, that project was a major success and the kerbs designed by iEDM in the photo attached, have since been applauded by CAMS and the FIA. 2013 has been a year of building for iEDM, cementing ourselves as the premier engineering project managers in the temporary overlay and events space. We have had new people join the team and we have opened up a new office in Adelaide. Given all the growth, we thought it was about time we updated the website with what we are up to at the moment: • Clipsal 500 Adelaide – After being awarded the Engineering Project Management Contract for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, we have set up an office in Norwood, just a few minutes from the circuit. iEDM Director, Steve Orr has relocated to Adelaide full time to lead a team of new and experienced iEDM’ers...

15 Feb Pukekohe Raceway upgrade on track for ITM400 Auckland V8 Supercars

Work is progressing on schedule on the $6.6 million upgrade of Pukekohe Park Raceway in readiness to host April’s ITM 400 Auckland V8 Supercar event. The works include improving and replacing safety barriers, debris fencing and curbing, some resurfacing, major alterations to the pit area, new pit garages, control buildings and addition of two new corners on the back straight. After two months of demolition, earthworks and infrastructure improvements, construction is set to begin on the new pits and control buildings. “Work is largely on schedule and helped by the excellent weather,” said project manager, Christian Butler from Integrated engineering Delivery Management (iEDM). “We have added to the original scope of works with more infrastructures especially around drainage and storm water. “In the next two weeks the public will begin to see some major development. We have nearly finished the concrete pad and will begin construction of the new pits and also the control building.” The work has included the removal of 9000 cub m of soil to enlarge and level the pit area. “There’s now a large concrete surface to provide not only for the 32 pit garages but also service area behind the pits, and we have also re-aligned the pit lane as well.” The...

Last week we were once again delivering the Sucrogen Townsville 400. It is such a pleasure being involved in this Event with V8 Supercars and we were really proud of the product our collective teams put together. It is such a great community event and one that we hope to be a part of for a long time to come. Congratulations to everyone involved. For the past few months, we have been working with V8 Supercars on an upgrade proposal for Pukekohe Park in New Zealand. During the Townsville event last week, it was announced by V8SC that this proposal was successful in obtaining Government funding and the NZ round of the Championship would move to Pukekohe Park in April, 2013. iEDM provided conceptual master planning, funding feasibility and application documentation for V8 Supercars to assist in this process. The NZ$6.6 million project, which will be jointly funded by Auckland Council, Major Events New Zealand and V8 Supercars, will provide safety, operational and patron amenity upgrades to the existing circuit. iEDM will be providing all engineering project management, design and delivery of these upgrades as well as event overlay master planning and detailed design. Works will include resurfacing parts of the track, installation of...
