29 Mar 2012 QLD Workplace Health and Safety – Event Fact Sheet

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland have released a fact sheet on the new Harmonised WHS Legislation aimed at Event Organisers. The Fact Sheet can be found at this link: Whilst the fact sheet highlights the importance for Event Organisers to have all their WHS procedures in place, we think it probably falls a long way short of the type of information a lot of Organisers and Promoters are looking for. Events are complex businesses when looked at in light of the Harmonised WHS Legislation. We have volunteers, staff and construction activities in public environments and then to top it off, your venue is swamped by thousands of patrons. Most events, under the Act, will be viewed as construction sites and Organisers and Promoters are acting as the head construction company. That’s hard to fathom for a lot of Events and adjustments need to be made in the industry to meet the requirements of the Harmonised WHS Act. Would love to know what you think…...

23 Feb 2012 Harmonisation of Safety Legislation

In January 2012, the Federal Government introduced the harmonised Work Health and Safety Act (2011) across all states. Well, sort of… QLD has fully adopted the Act, NSW and SA is nearly there and Victoria and WA have 12 months to adopt the legislation. There is also a range of Codes of Practice which are still to be released. So really, it’s still a bit of a jumble of laws depending on where you do business. What do the laws mean to events? Well that depends on how you treated your event previously. iEDM SafeEVENT have conducted a review of the legislation with regards to its impact on events and can provide customised practical guidelines and applications. Briefly however, here are a few of the items you need to know: 1. Every business is known as a Person Conducting Business or Undertaking (PCBU). 2. The Directors and Senior Management of the PCBU hold a positive duty of care to ensure safety in the workplace and that correct compliance is achieved. This duty of care is to all of the company’s workers, contractors, sub-contractors and volunteers etc. 3. For most events, we would see the PCBU in control of the site / commissioning the works to be...

23 Feb 2012 London Olympic Precinct 3d Visualisation

For a bit of fun in the lead up to the 2012 London Olympics, iEDM have created a 3d animated visualisation of a temporary street circuit around the Olympic Precinct. Having only construction photos and images available over the web, we completely reconstructed the site in a 3d model and designed a visual perspective of what we thought the event might look like. Then, we built our own car and went for a lap. Take a look – London Street Circuit Or alternatively you can visit the Project page for more information. iEDM have a visual design team that specialise in 3d visualisation, simulation, architectural and special project design. 2012 London Olympic Precinct - Original Street Circuit Concept by iEDM from Howler + iEDM on Vimeo....
