SEA

15 Apr 2021 SEA Change for Good

When you think about it, our waking hours can be seen as a series of unfolding opportunities and choices, both big and small. Some opportunities demand a lot of thought and careful consideration, others can be dismissed immediately and instinctively. Every now and again, however, there are opportunities that you just ‘know’ you have to seize. You pull on your goggles and speedos, dive straight in, combine your efforts with the positive current of that opportunity, and go somewhere special. This is how I feel about iEDM’s newly formalised partnership with the Sports Environment Alliance (SEA). It’s an opportunity for us to make a practical difference, to be part of the vanguard of simply doing more for the planet, where our impact is positive, not detrimental. For the uninitiated, SEA is a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation that aims to provide the sports industry with the knowledge and networks to become environmental stewards, and generate change in the sporting community for the good of the environment.   As one of the three alliances in the world leading the movement for environmental sustainability in sport, SEA acts as a platform for members to see the great work of global partners, inspiring them to do more and generate change.  As a...

A Day at the Drive

09 Apr 2021 Point Of View – A Day at the Drive

By David Wilde, Onsite Safety Manager. ‘A Day at the Drive’ was a high-profile, one-off tennis exhibition held in Adelaide on 29th January of this year. And by high-profile, we’re talking the likes of Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep, Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka. The event gave these elite players a chance to get some match practice in before the ATP Cup the following week, but it was so much more than just a warm-up for eight of the world’s best! After the extraordinary trials that our industry endured through 2020, this event felt like a shining light of hope and inspiration on so many levels. From the smiles and applause of the audience in attendance, to the genuine delight and joy expressed by the players at performing in front of a crowd again. As Serena Williams said after her match: “We haven’t played in front of a crowd in over a year… So happy just to be here.” For me, my real ‘goosebump’ moment came when I snapped the above image of Rafael Nadal stepping out on court, to thunderous applause from a full house. For fans to see their sporting heroes again is one thing, but to get that perspective...

12 Dec 2013 iEDM Extend V8 Supercars Agreement

As the 2013 season concluded on the weekend with the Sydney NRMA Motoring and Services 500, iEDM are very excited to announce that we have extended our current Engineering Project Management agreement with V8 Supercars for an additional 3 years. The Agreement includes the Townsville 400, Gold Coast 600 and the Sydney 500 V8 Supercar Events, which iEDM have been delivering on behalf of V8 Supercars since 2009. iEDM Chairman John Howe says the agreement reflects the strong relationship between the two companies. “V8 Supercars are an extension of our iEDM family. On behalf of all of the Directors and staff at iEDM, we would like to thank V8 Supercars and in particular the Events team for their continued support of our organisation and our growth over the past 5 years.” Securing the EPM role with V8 Supercars for their major street circuits caps off an extremely successful year for iEDM. “Our reputation for delivery of overlay for major temporary events has led to many opportunities for our group.” Mr Howe says, “Our proven ability to deliver world class event infrastructure in complex public environments secured iEDM the contracts for the Engineering Project Managers role for the 2014 – 2016 Clipsal 500 Adelaide...

12 Dec 2013 Where Did August Go!?

We can’t believe that it’s already September! This year is flying past and we just noticed that it has been a while since our last update. That’s because the action stations have been manned with our committed team tirelessly preparing for Events right around the country. Our last update was about the project in Pukekohe, NZ being on track back in February! Firstly, that project was a major success and the kerbs designed by iEDM in the photo attached, have since been applauded by CAMS and the FIA. 2013 has been a year of building for iEDM, cementing ourselves as the premier engineering project managers in the temporary overlay and events space. We have had new people join the team and we have opened up a new office in Adelaide. Given all the growth, we thought it was about time we updated the website with what we are up to at the moment: • Clipsal 500 Adelaide – After being awarded the Engineering Project Management Contract for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, we have set up an office in Norwood, just a few minutes from the circuit. iEDM Director, Steve Orr has relocated to Adelaide full time to lead a team of new and experienced iEDM’ers...

17 Jul 2012 Pukekohe Park Upgrade

Last week we were once again delivering the Sucrogen Townsville 400. It is such a pleasure being involved in this Event with V8 Supercars and we were really proud of the product our collective teams put together. It is such a great community event and one that we hope to be a part of for a long time to come. Congratulations to everyone involved. For the past few months, we have been working with V8 Supercars on an upgrade proposal for Pukekohe Park in New Zealand. During the Townsville event last week, it was announced by V8SC that this proposal was successful in obtaining Government funding and the NZ round of the Championship would move to Pukekohe Park in April, 2013. iEDM provided conceptual master planning, funding feasibility and application documentation for V8 Supercars to assist in this process. The NZ$6.6 million project, which will be jointly funded by Auckland Council, Major Events New Zealand and V8 Supercars, will provide safety, operational and patron amenity upgrades to the existing circuit. iEDM will be providing all engineering project management, design and delivery of these upgrades as well as event overlay master planning and detailed design. Works will include resurfacing parts of the track, installation of...
