formula 1 GP Celebration

01 Sep 2021 AGPC appoint iEDM to deliver the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix.

iEDM is pleased to announce its appointment as the engineering Project Managers for the 2022 to 2024 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix. In partnership with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, iEDM will provide specialist integrated overlay design, engineering, project management and construction management services to deliver all circuit and temporary infrastructure required for the Event. For Chairman John Howe, the agreement is a humbling reflection of iEDM’s strong performance and the trust developed between the two organisations. “Our team has been working closely with the AGPC since late 2019 to deliver around $20M of permanent upgrades to the Albert Park Circuit. It is a real endorsement of our people and processes, that based on our performance on that project and the relationship we have built with the AGPC, we have been trusted to deliver this world-class event for the next 5 years” he said. John continued “Following a difficult 12 months in the events and sport sector, our Melbourne office is now buzzing with excitement and positivity. The relationship our teams have at an operational level is one of the best I have seen in 40 years of business.” The scope of works for the contract includes principal contractor services of all temporary...

F1 track resurfacing Australia

25 Aug 2021 Flashback: Albert Park Circuit Modifications & Resurfacing – Building the Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix Wearing Course.

This article is written in reflection of a moment in our Journey from back in November 2020.  Let’s begin with some background. For the past three years, iEDM has been working as part of the team on modifications to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne. iEDM have been the engineering project manager for the project since September 2019. I have been acting as one of the project managers in Melbourne since March 2020, working under our Manager of Engineering and Construction – Michael Gardner. As a young project manager, it has been an amazing experience to be involved in such a critical Government project with some very important stakeholders. We are currently about halfway through the work and I have personally already learnt so many lessons I will take with me onto the next project. We surpassed some major milestones – laying an F1® trial mix (asphalt) and receiving approval to conduct the civil works for the circuit modifications. The project has been consistently challenged by various changes on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian lockdown and the postponement of the 2021 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix but as a project team we remain resilient and positive - we are finally here...

07 May 2021 Design, Planning & Site Management

Mark Trathen – Designer and Project Manager As a Project Manager/Designer, my role entails 3 things: DesigningPlanningSite Managing As a Designer, I am responsible for the overlay design of various events across Australia. This means determining how all of the temporary event infrastructure comes together and how the site functions as a whole. As a Project Planner, I manage contractor scopes from such things as budgeting to construction programmes. The planning phase involves regular interaction with key stakeholders involved in the build of the event. As a Site Manager, I have the opportunity to see my designs translate on the ground. Site management involves coordinating the various construction activities on site and working with the numerous suppliers to achieve the desired outcomes. Background Experience Counts Working previously as a Landscape Architect, my work was focussed on designing spaces. This could be anything from designing a carpark to the masterplan of a resort complex. With such variety in scale, my work was sometimes quite conceptual and sometimes very detailed. Moving into my role with iEDM, it was a great opportunity to apply these skills into the design of large-scale event precincts. Designing an event is essentially designing a large space. The key difference…it’s all temporary infrastructure and it’s a...

A Day at the Drive

09 Apr 2021 Point Of View – A Day at the Drive

By David Wilde, Onsite Safety Manager. ‘A Day at the Drive’ was a high-profile, one-off tennis exhibition held in Adelaide on 29th January of this year. And by high-profile, we’re talking the likes of Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Simona Halep, Dominic Thiem and Naomi Osaka. The event gave these elite players a chance to get some match practice in before the ATP Cup the following week, but it was so much more than just a warm-up for eight of the world’s best! After the extraordinary trials that our industry endured through 2020, this event felt like a shining light of hope and inspiration on so many levels. From the smiles and applause of the audience in attendance, to the genuine delight and joy expressed by the players at performing in front of a crowd again. As Serena Williams said after her match: “We haven’t played in front of a crowd in over a year… So happy just to be here.” For me, my real ‘goosebump’ moment came when I snapped the above image of Rafael Nadal stepping out on court, to thunderous applause from a full house. For fans to see their sporting heroes again is one thing, but to get that perspective...

12 Dec 2013 Where Did August Go!?

We can’t believe that it’s already September! This year is flying past and we just noticed that it has been a while since our last update. That’s because the action stations have been manned with our committed team tirelessly preparing for Events right around the country. Our last update was about the project in Pukekohe, NZ being on track back in February! Firstly, that project was a major success and the kerbs designed by iEDM in the photo attached, have since been applauded by CAMS and the FIA. 2013 has been a year of building for iEDM, cementing ourselves as the premier engineering project managers in the temporary overlay and events space. We have had new people join the team and we have opened up a new office in Adelaide. Given all the growth, we thought it was about time we updated the website with what we are up to at the moment: • Clipsal 500 Adelaide – After being awarded the Engineering Project Management Contract for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, we have set up an office in Norwood, just a few minutes from the circuit. iEDM Director, Steve Orr has relocated to Adelaide full time to lead a team of new and experienced iEDM’ers...
