Ipswich Motor Racing Circuit

OVERVIEW

iEDM were engaged by Ipswich Motor Precinct (IMP) to provide circuit and precinct concept master planning services for a planned $220M upgrade to the Queensland Raceway.

iEDM partnered with leading sports architecture firm, Populous and our Key Consultant, Mark Skaife, to provide IMP a mixture of best-in-field professional services.

The brief included reviewing consulting with key stakeholders and producing a new master plan which was focused around a major upgrade to the circuit, looking at:

  • Safety Improvements;
  • Racing improvements;
  • Fan facility, engagement and experience improvements;
  • Access improvements; and,
  • Improvements to the relationships of facilities within the entire greater Queensland Raceway Precinct.

Whilst the existing facility hosts the annual Supercars Australia Event, the Ipswich City Council have a vision to redevelop the site by upgrading amenities, adding more facilities and extending the race track to leverage the substantial interest in non-racing days, such as car testing by manufacturers and special club drive days which can generate significant revenue for the entire precinct.

The team have produced a design which meets all of the above objectives and will result in significant improvements to the experience of all users of the precinct.

John Howe, iEDM Chairman and project lead, says

The integration of our teams and their ideas has been able to provide our Client a truly unique product and one we can be proud of”

It is expected the next stage of the project will be the production of detailed master plan, concept civil design and FIA homologation drawings for the circuit.
