CONCEPT London Olympic F1

OVERVIEW

iEDM developed a concept design for a proposed street circuit around the 2012 London Olympic site.

In 2011, iEDM developed a concept design for a proposed street circuit around the 2012 London Olympic site. The aim of any street circuit is to provide a challenging motorsport venue that showcases the visual imagery of the host city and what better place to showcase modern London than the innovative new Olympic precinct?

With its strategic location, pre-installed events amenities and state of the art transport facilities it would serve as a fantastic venue for any racing format.

iEDM recognise the benefits of creating effective legacy for infrastructure and new expertise post the hosting of mega-events and wanted to highlight what we thought was a great opportunity for London. We have the experience in delivering these major street circuit events and know first-hand the benefits they provide the community. It was not made to showcase a fully realised final track design, but rather was created to show how the concept could work and look against the backdrop of a great Olympic precinct in one of the world’s great international cities.

The visualisation has successfully inspired the discussion about the proposition and even other parties to create similar concepts. iEDM is a company dedicated to the sustainable delivery of tourism, leisure and events projects from concept to reality.

The site was largely unfinished upon undertaking this study (2011). iEDM have painstakingly pieced together aerial plans and imagery from the official website and information provided on Google Earth to get an accurate rendering of the site. Whilst entirely at a concept stage, this study shows the possibility for a temporary street circuit to be staged at the precinct long after the initial Olympic Games have concluded.

iEDM have been involved in the concept, design and delivery of unique street circuits such as the V8 Supercars Sydney 500 motorsport based event which is held in the Sydney 200 Homebush Olympic precinct. A London Olympic street circuit offers a continuation of the sporting legacy for the years after the Olympic dream has faded.
